In every union of Chittagong’s Lohagara upazila, the riot of mud khekos continues throughout the night. From the first hour of the night till the dawn of dawn, the soil khekora is cutting the topsoil of the crop land and selling it to the brick kiln.
On Monday (December 30) mobile court raids were conducted in Charamba Union, Kalauzhan Union, Rajghata and Padua Union of Amirabad Union on the basis of these activities of Mati Khekod every night. Besides collecting a fine of four and a half lakh rupees, 4 dumpers were seized.
Lohagara Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Muhammad Inamul Hasan conducted the operation of the mobile court. 2 lakh from Ershad Hossain, son of deceased Fauzul Kabir of North Kalauzan. 2 lakh from Md Abdul Momin of Amirabad and 50 thousand from Junaid Bogdadi son of Mofizur Rahman of Padua School Gate area.
A fine of four and a half lakh rupees was collected in total. A team from Bangladesh Army Lohagara Upazila Camp and Nazir and Ansar members of Upazila Parishad assisted in running the mobile court.
Lohagara Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Muhammad Inamul Hasan told Daily Azadi that almost every day I was getting news about the illegal activities of soil collectors in various unions of the upazila. Following this, yesterday (December 30) I held an emergency meeting with all stakeholders including police, army, forest department, local public representatives, students and decided what to do. Later, mobile court raids were carried out overnight in Charamba Union, Kalauzhan Union, Rajghata and Padua Union of Amirabad Union and 4 dampers were seized along with a fine of four and a half lakh rupees. Such operations will continue in public interest.
