OPPO Reno12 FS 5G / Elegant and affordable

The FS attribute reveals that this is a variant of the base model OPPO 12 5G, where some slight compromises have been made in order to achieve a favorable price. However, these do not apply to the excellent AMOLED display, 12 GB of RAM, or 512 GB of storage space.

The design and functional highlight of the rear wall is a round, slightly protruding platform with three camera lenses and an LED flash. The manufacturer declares resistance against dust and water according to the requirements of the IP64 standard. The manufacturer did not pack the protective case. The edges around the front and back are relatively sharp, not unpleasantly so, but I would have liked at least half a millimeter more rounding.

The OLED display with a resolution of 1080 × 2400 pixels and a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz has relatively thin bezels, while the display area is flat. At the top there is a small hole for the selfie camera lens. The display is protected by durable Asahi Glass, and a protective film is still attached to it from the factory. You can set the refresh rate to 60 Hz, which will reduce energy consumption, or rely on automatic. The fingerprint sensor is under the display and works very well, although it is placed a little low for my habits. The sound is stereo, the quality is sufficient for occasional watching of videos. For a better experience, especially when listening to music, I recommend headphones.

The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset is more energy efficient than powerful. Although the performance cannot compete with flagship smartphones at two or three times the price, it is sufficient for common applications and less demanding games. The processor has 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage space, which you can expand if necessary using a micro SDXC card, in this case at the expense of the second SIM. The battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh is enough for one and a half days to two days of normal use. The economical processor has something to it. The maximum supported charging power is 45 W. In accordance with the current trend, the charger is not included.

There are two full-fledged cameras on the back, I consider the macro camera to be more of an accessory. The main wide-angle camera with an f/1.8 lens and optical stabilization has the same viewing angle as the human eye and a 50 Mpx sensor. In the right light, it provides very good images, rich in color, just the way young people like them, who put them on social networks, but not oversaturated. Even the ultra-wide-angle camera, which has a viewing angle of 112˚ and a resolution of 8 Mpx, cannot be embarrassed by the color saturation. For evening shots, I recommend using the night mode and if possible repeat the shot at least twice so that you can choose the best shot. You can record video in the maximum resolution of 4K with a maximum frame rate of 60 fps, with the selfie camera only 30 fps.

Android 14 is supplemented with the user interface ColorOS 14.0, which improves the user interface of the operating system. You can, of course, uninstall pre-installed applications that you don’t need.

PROS, CONS:

+ Design, display, battery life
– Embarrassing results during night photography
