The coach of FCSB’s future opponent was fired due to the poor results recorded in the last matches.
FCSB has an almost perfect track record in European cups. The team coached by Elias Charalambous has registered three victories in the first four matches of the Europa League main stage. Good news for the red-blues comes from Germany, where things are not looking too good for the upcoming opponent, Hoffenheim.
Hoffenheim fired their coach a month before the duel with FCSB
Pellegrino Matarazzo took over Hoffenheim from the relegation zone and brought them all the way to the European cups, but in the new season things do not look good at all for the German team, engaged in several competitions. The poor results at the start of the championship season made the Hoffenheim bosses take the decision to give up the coach.
The Germans are 15th in the Bundesliga, just one point above the relegation zone. With only 9 points in the first 10 league matches, Pellegrino Matarazzo had very little chance of continuing against the future opponent of the red-blues.
The club’s management decided not to wait any longer and sacked Pellegrino Matarazzo just before the international break in order to have enough time to appoint a new technician who would have time to work with the team before the resumption of the competitive season. One of the reasons for the dismissal of the American technician was the lack of consistency of his performances this season.
“The decision was not easy for us, especially since we had a very good and open dialogue with Rino in the last few weeks since I took over,” sporting director Andreas Schicker said in a statement, according to Kicker.
Sturm Graz’s technician, Christian Ilzer, could be appointed at the helm of the team. The Austrian technician is well acquainted with the German sporting director and technical director Paul Pajduch, with whom he managed the Sturm Graz club in the Champions League.
Hoffenheim no longer looks like a “scarecrow” for FCSB
The Germans seemed to be one of the most difficult teams that FCSB has to face, before the start of the Europa League season, but things seem to be no longer like that, on the contrary, the red-blues have now become a “scarecrow” for the opponents, after making notable results in the first four matches.
Hoffenheim is only in 19th place with 5 points accumulated in the first four games, while FCSB is in 8th place with 9 points. The team left without a coach this weekend has a lot rated at 166 million euros, with Adam Hlozek being the best rated player (18 million euros). The Czech striker scored two goals in the Europa League, as did FCSB’s top-rated player, Darius Olaru (€7m).
The match between Hoffenheim and FCSB will take place on December 12. Before this duel, the two teams have one more stage to play in the European cups and the direct confrontation can be decisive for FCSB in terms of securing a place in the upper stages with two stages to go.
The first 8 teams go directly to the “eights”, while the 9th-24th places compete in a qualification play-off to occupy the remaining eight remaining free places.
