But maybe even then it wasn’t simple, we just weren’t aware of many things that were happening to us. Does consciousness bring good or bad? It’s hard to tell the difference sometimes. But what is consciousness? And how much of the information and knowledge we have is actually conscious?
Freud still pointed out that consciousness is only the tip of the iceberg, and that we are actually ruled by the dark forces of the unconscious. What you think you are turns out not to be ie. there is a lot behind it. And until you become aware of the unconscious, you will think that there is a destiny.

I have seen people in therapy whose internal elements in the personality are not adequately balanced. In some, the Persona, or public personality, is too pronounced. They live life identifying with the role they have given themselves, without sinking inside. Most often, they end up in therapy because of emptiness or the impossibility of achieving a goal.
With some other Id keys and urges rule. There are no borders, no limits, and the unconscious is greedy, voracious, hungry…they would like to try everything.
There are also people with strong one type of energy. Anima or Animus. This is a text about them.

According to Jung, Anima and Animus represent what is called the image of the soul. When most of us use the word soul, we mean something that transcends, while Jung uses the word soul as another word for our personality, ie. what’s inside. Persona is our public personality, what other people see clearly and accessible, while Anima, i.e. Animus is the inner personality, which has not yet been given the opportunity to fully develop.

Anima represents the set of female characteristics in a man, and Animus the set of male characteristics in a woman. These qualities should be roughly balanced within each of us.
A man who would be connected to his Anima would show tenderness, patience, appreciation and compassion, empathy, the ability to soothe himself, the ability to introspect his life, access to creativity, inspiration, the ability to feel, in general – sensitivity.

However, due to the suppression of these qualities and the overemphasis of Anime in a man, negative qualities would be expressed, such as vanity, vanity, quarrelsomeness, moodiness, hyper-offensiveness, constant search for validation through others and self-affirmation, the tendency to isolate others, masochism, self-centeredness and envy.

Animus in a woman would indicate the characteristics of concreteness, orientation towards clarity, goal, rationality, strength, ability to solve problems well. Due to the repression of the same, it would mean destructiveness, insensitivity, cruelty, “I know everything or I’m always right” behavior, sadism, control, loudness, tendency to mistreat others.
Practically speaking, an inadequately positioned Animus or Anima takes the opposite pole of the characteristics of an adequately positioned Anima, that is, Animus. For example, sensitivity and sensibility turn into moodiness and hyper-offensiveness.

Inadequately positioned Animus in a woman usually manifests itself as: Impatient Animus, Destructive, Suspicious, Overbearing and Attacking.

What is important for personal progress and development is to recognize which energy is dominant in us, whether we are “possessed” by it, give it the right to vote and start an internal dialogue.
One of the useful techniques, for example with the Animus who attacks you by pointing out that you are the one who is unsuccessful, that you are a failure of a person, is to simply address him: “Okay, you’re right, I am a total failure, let’s move on.” .

This allows the energy to move on and not be wasted on internal conflict, and the woman is left to manage the situation herself and mobilize healthy forces.

These two sides of personality have nothing to do with our sexual orientation, but with our internal representation of the world and ourselves in it, they have to do with the balance of energies and traits that belong to one or the other sex.
Duality and separation as such exists only in the external world. In our inner Self, there is only wholeness and unity as such.

The essence of our life is to balance these characteristics and begin the process of individuation. According to Jung, this would mean becoming a complete individual, i.e. to accept our deepest and unrepeatable uniqueness, to self-actualize, among other things, to accept ourselves, the flow of life and responsibility for what happens to us.

Our life then is no longer just a realization and identification only with the ego, but by becoming aware of ourselves, we become more durable, psychologically resistant and can give meaning to challenges. Essentially, individuation would mean separating from something general, becoming what each of us is, and the first step towards that is getting to know and integrating the detached, runaway parts of the personality, as a balance between the existing ones, their adjustment and polishing.
#1 The first and basic role is the ability to make connections with others

This would mean that our relationships with others are balanced, that they are not always used in masculine terms, i.e. female elements of communication, so that we can ideally integrate these two sides in us and use them when needed and when the situation and others, and ultimately we ourselves, demand that.

#2 Attitude towards yourself
Anima and Animus represent parts of our soul and play a big role in how we think about ourselves and how we feel about ourselves, when we are alone with ourselves and ask ourselves who we are. They determine some of our inner spirit that colors our relationships, our energy that we bring to a relationship.

#3 In line with this, Anima and Animus due to projections participate in building our emotional relationships and in how we choose our emotional partners
Driven by the need of the inner Self to be fully known, the unconscious always strives to be known. As the conscious part of the mind is completely unaware of the Anime/Animus, we meet our soul image, cry out for recognition, constantly: most often in romantic relationships.
Unknowingly, many people (perhaps most) are attracted to those who are most similar to their Animas/Animus, thus embodying the belief that “opposites attract”. Highly masculine men feel attracted to highly feminine women, for example.

Or a woman whose Anima is too pronounced, who shows herself to be too weak, expects from her partner a person who will be very protective towards her, instead of working on her inner quality of strength.

Many people choose partners that balance their respective complementary strengths and weaknesses. But since the Anima/Animus lies deep in the unconscious, we rarely have the realization that our potential partners represent lost aspects of ourselves. We simply meet someone and react.

So, in order to be mentally healthy in the Jungian sense, it is important to have, roughly speaking, the soul in its place. According to Jung, neurosis is a manifestation of a dislocated soul, insufficient dialogue with it, insufficient balance of internal representations of the personality and their relationship to the world.
