Like ARD, ORF will soon end its SD broadcast via Astra. The shutdown notices have now become larger. When will the SD exit take place?
It is already known that ARD will end the SD broadcast of all of its programs on Astra 19.2 degrees East on January 7, 2025. It is a little less known that the Austrian ORF will also soon end the broadcast of ORF1, ORF2 and ORF3 in SD. At least in Austria only a few households are affected by this. Also because the basic encrypted SD channels can only be opened with the ORF smart card. This is not possible with the cardless modules for ORF and HD Austria.
The ORF began displaying shutdown notices on the affected channels in August. The design has remained the same since then, but as of October 1st these displays are already four times larger than before. According to the ORF, these displays will become even larger in the near future and will make it impossible to follow the content during the final phase at the latest.
When will ORF SD switch off on Astra?
Typically Austrian: An exact shutdown date has not yet been communicated. However, it is reasonable to assume that this will happen at the latest at the same time as the ARD channels. At hd.orf.at there is talk of the end of 2024. But it could also be at the beginning of December. At least the ORF ended the SD distribution of ORF Sport+ on December 4, 2023, as a kind of test run.
Where else can you watch ORF?
All ORF channels are also available in HD on Astra. So ORF1, all nine regional versions of ORF2, ORF3 and ORF Sport+. Your transmission parameters: 11.273 (transponder 5) and 11.303 GHz (transponder 7), both horizontal (22,000, 2/3, DVB-S2/8PSK).
