Between September 16-22, 2024, the policemen of the Highway Brigade carried out an extensive action to prevent road accidents and to ensure the flow of traffic. As a result of the controls, 1,829 contraventional sanctions were applied for various deviations from traffic law.
Of these, 671 penalties were issued for exceeding the legal speed limit, while 170 drivers were fined for not wearing a seat belt. The police also found technical defects in 29 vehicles and applied 23 sanctions for the lack of Periodic Technical Inspection (ITP).
Also, 252 sanctions concerned non-compliance with driving periods, breaks and rest for drivers, as well as the correct use of activity recording devices. In addition, 6 penalties were applied for driving under the influence of alcohol, 9 for parking in the emergency lane, and 6 for irregular overtaking.
As complementary measures, 79 driving licenses were suspended, including 45 for speeding, and 87 registration certificates were withdrawn. At the same time, the police found 12 crimes.
Examples of serious misconduct:
– September 19, 2024: On the A1 Motorway, a man was caught driving under the influence of alcohol, the breathalyzer test showing a value of 0.44 mg/l of pure alcohol in exhaled air. The driver was taken to a medical facility for collection of biological samples;
– September 21, 2024: Another driver was spotted driving at 189 km/h on a section limited to 100 km/h on the A1 Deva – Nădlac highway. The driver had his license suspended for 120 days and received a fine;
– September 22, 2024: On the same road sector, a driver was caught driving at 195 km/h, on a section limited to 130 km/h. He was fined and his license was suspended for 90 days, with temporary driving rights for 15 days.
The actions of the highway police are mainly aimed at reducing the number of road accidents and increasing traffic safety.
