For five years now Pagani has been exploring the idea of a purely electric hypercar and although it has expressed its objections about the weight of the batteries, it has not given up on the idea of bringing such a model to market.
This was stated in a recent interview by Christopher Pagani, son of the founder and marketing director of Pagani, saying:
We loved working on the electric car and we’re still working on that project, so it’s not a closed chapter for us.
For us, the performance is in the dynamics of the vehicle. It’s not the amount of horsepower. It’s not top speed.
Christopher Pagani reiterated that current battery technology is too heavy for the electric hypercar that Pagani wants to build, and he hopes to innovate in the space when he finally offers such a vehicle.
We have always tried to be innovative. The Zonda was a car with many innovations in the use of composite materials, something that had never happened in a car before. The Huayra was the first twin-turbo hypercar, so we worked with AMG again to develop something that didn’t exist. And Utopia gave us the opportunity to return to the manual transmission.
In addition, he said that in meetings he held with the entire network of its dealers around the world, Pagani customers do not seem to be interested in acquiring an electric model of the company. As he pointed out:
Meetings with dealers have shown that there is no interest in a fully electric hypercar from Pagani.
