Notepad, which has been a part of the Windows system since 1983, is not a particularly complicated program, but even after all these decades, Microsoft is still able to incorporate new features into it, this year, for example, a spell checker and automatic correction. The editor now receives a new, at the same time significant update, namely the possibility of AI-supported text editing. The function called Rewrite has recently become available in a preview version for the participants of the Windows Insider program, so those with early access can already try it out.
Rewrite primarily makes things easier for users by automatically rewording sentences, but by treating the text as a coherent whole, it even suggests changes to its length or tone. It is easy to use: after selecting the part of text to be modified, it can be called up with the right button, then the program displays a dialog box where the proposed modifications can be approved, the function offers several variations of these.
Modern SOC, cyber intelligence and sustainable IT protection (x)
Come to our meetup on November 18, where we will present the latest trends in IT security through real use cases.
To use Rewrite, you must be signed in to a Microsoft account, as the server cloud service requires authentication. For now, people in the US, France, UK, Canada, Italy and Germany can try it out.
Likewise, Insiders can start testing new AI image-editing features in Paint, including Generative Fill, which lets you fill in an image by giving prompts, while Generative Erase, as the name implies, removes part of an image. The fill tool will initially be available to users of Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, while wipe will be available on all Windows 11 devices.
