Panasonic and projectile bring historical spaces to life
from editorial team,
Panasonic and artist collective Projektil are teaming up to create unique, immersive shows in historic buildings. The cooperation initially focuses on selected tour destinations of the global EONARIUM tour, which has already played in over 30 cities in Europe and the USA, and the fixed venue concept DAIA (Digital and Immersive Art).
New ways to tell stories
Panasonic Connect cooperates with Projektil, an internationally renowned and successful artist collective from Zurich, which is known as the world market leader in the performance of churches and historical buildings. At Projektil, visual artists, musicians, programmers, technologists and designers work as a multi-disciplinary team at the intersection of art and technology.
Together, Panasonic and Projektil want to create impressive, immersive experiences. The aim of the long-term partnership is to share knowledge and learn from each other for the benefit of immersive multimedia events in order to jointly improve location-specific art exhibitions and make them even more attractive for the audience.
With technical support from Panasonic, Projektil creates immersive shows that seamlessly integrate into the ambience of historic buildings. In addition to the artistic and entertaining aspect, the sustainable use of the historical rooms as show locations is also of crucial importance: the income from the shows helps to cover part of the operating costs of the buildings and to open up new groups of visitors.
3-chip DLP projectors
The productions primarily use powerful 3-chip DLP projectors from Panasonic. In addition to excellent image quality, these are also characterized by excellent endurance properties, which is particularly worthwhile in the environment of frequent performances. In addition, due to their compact design and flexible positioning options, the devices are ideal for use in different locations.
Panasonic not only advises Projektil on technical questions when planning and implementing its immersive shows, but also enables the artist collective to extensively test ideas and projectors in advance. In addition, the two cooperation partners closely discuss challenges in commissioning and operating projectors for installations. The aim is to discover potential for improvement and incorporate it into product development.
Two show concepts
Projektil’s art shows combine fascinating animations, which are precisely mapped onto the walls using Panasonic projectors, with specially composed and elaborately produced music. This harmonious fusion of image and sound takes the visual experience to a new level and allows the audience to completely immerse themselves in the art. Interactive components are also used in some of the attractions.
The cooperation between Panasonic and Projektil will initially focus on selected tour destinations of the global EONARIUM tour, which has already played in over 30 cities in Europe and the USA, and the fixed venue concept DAIA (Digital and Immersive Art).
Both shows preferably take place in autumn and winter because the glowing projections are even more effective in the dark months when less light penetrates through windows or doors. They will then be guests in various European cities for a period of two to four months, with each show being individually adapted to the respective venue.
Shows for the EONARIUM TOUR
Projektil has developed a diverse show catalog over the last 10 years and created over six impressive productions for the EONARIUM TOUR. EONARIUM is aimed primarily at an adult audience and places particular emphasis on artistic and aesthetic aspects. Each 30 to 45 minute long immersive show uses state-of-the-art high-performance projectors to impressively illuminate the structures, shapes, walls and masonry of historic buildings.
The productions range from educational entertainment formats, such as journeys through rainforests or oceans in “Pixel Zoo”, to modern-interpreted art classics, such as productions of Mozart’s Magic Flute, to special events such as concerts for all the senses. The productions often take place in churches, where shows such as “Enlightenment”, “Infinity”, “Flow” or “Genesis” are brought to life in breathtaking 3D light projections.
EONARIUM tours worldwide and can currently be seen in the Dreikönigskirche in Frankfurt, in the St. John’s Church in Stuttgart, in Lyon and Marseille, in the Casa Cardinale Ildefonso Schuster in Milan, in the St. George’s Hall in Liverpool and in the Iglesia de la Encarnación de Bilbao .
