Panathinaikos honored the memory of P. Giannakopoulos with an unforgettable evening at Kallimarmaros

In a “magical” evening in Kallimarmaro, through which Panathinaikos AKTOR and about 35 thousand of his fans honored the memory of Pavlos Giannakopoulos by creating an unforgettable atmosphere, the result, even if it was negative, had no importance.

With dozens of “high-ranking guests” from the past and present of the Greens watching, Ergin Ataman’s side stepped up and played their first home game of the year with a crowd on their side, a week before official duties began.

Zeljko Obradović’s Partizan, which was not absent from this celebration, left the Panathinaikos Stadium victorious, as it was superior throughout the match, had the lead all the time, and showed more will and “appetite” so as to get the victory, leading the “greens” to their third consecutive friendly defeat.

Brandon Davis opened the scoring for Partizan from mid-range (0-2), with Panathinaikos entering the game off target and Lessor being quickly charged with three fouls. T. Jones scored from close range (0-4), while Nakits continued the guests’ streak (0-6), with the “green” staying for almost half a quarter without a basket. Papapetrou broke the… pomegranate from close range, with T. Jones impressively nailing the Panathinaikos basket for 2-8. Yurtseven made two shots (4-8) and Mitoglou another (5-8), with Washington responding with a three-pointer (5-11). The greens continued to not find solutions and Partizan got away with +9 after a nail by Davis (6-15). Osman hit twice from the line (8-15) and the first quarter ended with Panathinaikos having just one field goal!

In the second period, Koprivica made the double score for Partizan (8-16), before Grant reduced it from a medium distance (10-16). Jones made consecutive baskets for 12-20 of the Serbs (Nan had reduced in between), who kept comfortably in front of the score and escaped with +9 with Lundberg (15-24). Nunn reduced the lead with a layup (17-24), but Davis responded with a basket and a foul for 17-26. Grigonis and Grant reduced (21-26), but the Serbs responded immediately with four points in a row by Pokusevski (21-30). Nunn made the home team’s first three-pointer (24-30), but consecutive points by Davis and a basket by Washington followed for Partizan’s +12 (24-36). Grant scored from close range late in the half to make it 27-36.

In the second half, Mitoglou and Grant scored for 31-40, but Pokuszewski made the difference by double digits with a layup in the surprise (31-42). Grant made a foul goal (34-42) and reduced it, while Juancho further reduced the gap with a three-pointer (37-42). Washington gave a first answer for Partizan with a layup (37-44), while Jones and Nunn exchanged baskets for 39-46. Yurtseven reduced by two shots (41-46), but Partizan started to break away again with Jones and Lundberg as protagonists, reaching up to +14 (41-55) with a partial score of 9-0. The third quarter ended 43-57 with Moraitis scoring and Dilikina hitting a buzzer beater.

In the fourth quarter, Nan and Mitoglou temporarily cut it to 47-59, but Lundberg hit an improbable foul field goal to make it 47-62. Partizan continued to maintain a high margin in their favor with relative ease, with Osman dropping it with a free goal for 55-65. Nevertheless, the Serbs reacted immediately and escaped again with +14 (55-69). Samonturov with two shots and Papapetrou with a three-pointer cut it to 60-69, while the Greek forward made another long shot for 62-69. Nevertheless, the time was not enough, with Partizan getting the victory and Panathinaikos the big applause from his crowd.
