The number of passengers who disembarked or embarked at national airports in October increased 2.9% compared to the same month last year, totaling around 6.6 million, according to data released by Vinci, owner of ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal.
Compared to October 2019, the last year before the Covid-19 pandemic that sank air traffic globally, the increase reaches 20%.
Vinci indicates that in the first 10 months of this year the volume of passengers passing through Portuguese airports increased by 4.2% compared to the same period last year and 17% compared to 2019 numbers.
60 million threshold already surpassed
Thus, between January and the end of October this year, around 61 million passengers will have boarded or disembarked at ANA’s airport infrastructure.
Globally, Vinci reported a 6.4% increase in October in the number of passengers passing through the airports it manages in 15 countries compared to figures a year earlier. Compared to October 2019, growth was 8.8%.
Likewise, in the year to date, passenger traffic at the French giant’s airports shows growth of around 8.5% compared to last year and 3.1% compared to 2019. The countries with the highest growth in the 10 first months of 2024 compared to the previous year are Costa Rica (+21%), Japan (+20%), Cambodia and Hungary (both +19%).
