Washington – Czech hockey goalie Jiří Patera is switching to an NHL jersey and will fight for another chance in Vancouver after his time in Vegas. According to TSN, the 25-year-old protégé of Slavia Prague signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Canucks as an unprotected free agent. His financial terms were not disclosed, but according to capfriendly.com, he should earn $775,000 a year in the first team and $400,000 in the AHL.
Pater’s one-year, two-way contract with the Golden Knights ended with an income of $775,000 for the NHL and $100,000 for the lower AHL. In the best league in the world, he got an opportunity in six games this season, averaged 3.98 goals conceded per game and had a save success rate of 89.3 percent. In the AHL, he caught 25 games for Henderson, had an average of 2.99 and a success rate of 90.3.
In the NHL, Patera made his debut in the 2022/23 year and caught two games for Vegas in March with an average of 2.5 and a success rate of 92.9. The Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup, but Patera is not among its holders. In four seasons in the AHL, he caught 85 games for Henderson with an average of 2.92 goals conceded and a success rate of 90.7 percent. He kept a clean sheet once. In two playoff duels, he has an average of 3.63 and a success rate of 90 percent.
Patera should be the Canucks’ third goalie behind American Thatcher Demek and Latvian Arturs Šilovs, who is awaiting negotiations with Vancouver on a new contract.
As a big reinforcement, Vancouver acquired Canadian forward Jake DeBrusk, who has so far only defended the colors of Boston in the NHL. The 27-year-old Edmonton native signed a seven-year, $38.5 million contract with the Canucks as an unrestricted free agent. His two-year, $8 million contract with the Bruins expired. In eight seasons in the NHL, he scored 266 points for 138 goals and 128 assists in 465 games in the regular season. In the playoffs, he collected 47 points (27+20) in 86 duels.
The Canucks signed four more unprotected free agents – defenseman Derek Forbort and forwards Danton Heinen (both most recently Boston), Nate Smith (Arizona) and Kiefer Sherwood (Nashville).
Forward Nosek moves from New Jersey to Stanley Cup champion Florida
Czech hockey forward Tomáš Nosek is saying goodbye to New Jersey after a year in the NHL and is heading to this year’s Stanley Cup winner Florida. According to the Canadian television station TSN, the 31-year-old Pardubic student signed a one-year contract with the Panthers as an unprotected free agent for $775,000. With the Devils, Nosk’s one-year contract for an equal million dollars has expired.
Nosek played only 36 games last season for New Jersey, also due to a right leg injury and surgery at the end of November, scoring two goals and four assists. He was then in the preparation of the Czech national team before the World Championship in Prague, but he only got the opportunity at the Czech Hockey Games in Brno in a duel with Finland in a 1:4 loss, and he did not make it into the squad of the later world champions.
In total, the former player of Detroit, Vegas and Boston in the regular season of the NHL has 434 games played and 107 points for 44 goals and 63 assists. In the playoffs, he scored six goals and eight assists in 52 games. In 2018, he played in the Stanley Cup finals with Vegas in their first season in the NHL, but Washington was happy to win the trophy.
“Tomáš is an experienced forward with a very good two-way game. We look forward to having him join our team for the upcoming season,” Florida general manager Bill Zito told the club’s website.
Canadian AJ Greer (most recently Boston) is also a new Panthers offensive acquisition. Florida managed to keep two of its mainstays. Canadian Gunners Sam Reinhart signed an eight-year, $69 million contract, and Russian defenseman Dmitry Kulikov signed a four-year, $4.6 million contract.
Forward Frk will fight for the NHL again after a year in Switzerland, Calgary signed
Czech hockey forward Martin Frk, after a year spent in the Swiss league in Bern and Rapperswil, is returning to North America to fight for the NHL, where he signed a one-year two-way contract with Calgary as an unprotected free agent. According to capfriendly.com, the 30-year-old student of Karlovy Vary would earn $775,000 if he were on the Flames’ first team. Frk has 124 games in the NHL for Carolina, Detroit and Los Angeles.
In the 2022/23 season, Frk had a two-way contract in the NHL with St. Louis, but he spent the entire year on the farm in Springfield in the AHL. Last year, after 13 years, he returned to Europe from North America and headed to Bern. In his jersey, he scored three goals and four assists in 11 matches. In November, he transferred to Rapperswil, where he played 22 games and recorded four goals and five assists.
In the NHL, the Pelhřim native has 41 points for 20 goals and 21 assists in 124 games. He last got an opportunity in the best league in the world in the 2021/22 season, when he played six games for Los Angeles and scored two goals. In the AHL, he scored 317 points (167+150) in 403 duels in the regular season. He had a record of 10+20 in 37 playoff games. In 2017, he won the Calder Cup with Detroit Grand Rapids Farm.
American Devin Cooley replaced Daniel Vladař and Dustin Wolf, who is a protected free agent, at the goalkeeper post. He caught six games for San Jose last season. In defense, the Flames acquired Jake Bean (most recently Columbus) and in attack, this year’s Stanley Cup winner with Florida, Ryan Lomberg and Anthony Mantha, who started last year in Washington and finished in Vegas.
The Flames also secured the services of Belarusian forward Yegor Šarangović, whose two-year, $6 million contract expires after the upcoming season. He was then eligible to become an unrestricted free agent, but signed a new five-year, $28.75 million contract.
