Paul McCartney set himself a New Year’s resolution: to finish his next album.
In a short conversation with fans on his websiteMcCartney confirmed that he was “working on a lot of songs” but had to put the album “on hold” due to his “Got Back Tour”, which began in 2022 and finally concluded this month with a special concert in London with guest appearances Ringo Starr i Ronnie Wood.
“I hope to go back and finish many of these songs,” McCartney wrote. “So, how about that? My New Year’s resolution is to finish a new album!”
McCartney released his latest solo album, McCartney IIIin 2020. That album was a sort of continuation of his previous releases, McCartney iz 1970. i McCartney II from 1980, although it was directly followed by his solo project from 2018, Egypt Station.
In 2021, McCartney shared a remix album McCartney III Imagined. That LP featured a number of new collaborators and remixers, including Beck, St. Vincent, Phoebe Bridgers, Damon Albarn, Khruangbin, Dominic Fike, Josh Homme i Anderson .Paak.
Although McCartney hasn’t released any new solo music recently, this year he spearheaded the arrival of the Beatles’ final song, “Now and Then.” The track is based on a piano demo which is John Lennon recorded in 1977 and which Yoko Ono given to the surviving members of the band in 1994. That’s when George Harrison recorded guitar parts for possible use in the Beatles Anthology box sets, but the quality of the original demo was so poor that the band decided to scrap the song.
Years later, however, McCartney was able to clean up the demo using the same technology that Peter Jackson’s team had developed to restore and preserve archival audio for the film project. Get Back. McCartney and Starr recorded new drums and vocals, which they mixed with Lennon’s demo and Harrison’s old guitar parts. “Now and Then” was recently nominated for several Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year.
