Pavel: Peace is becoming the marketing slogan of politicians, it should not divide us – World – News

A dignified life in freedom has significantly more value and brings more satisfaction than a life dependent on the will of any authoritarians. Czech President Petr Pavel said this in his New Year’s speech on Wednesday. He pointed out that the word peace began to be distorted by political marketing. He also warned against misinformation and once again supported the euro.

According to Pavel, people are exhausted from the fear spread by ongoing wars, they are tired of crises and disappointed by unfulfilled expectations. However, he is convinced that the actual state of the country is nowhere near as bad as people might think based on deliberately spread negative sentiments. He recalled NATO’s security guarantees and the respect of the Czech Republic abroad. According to him, the overall economic situation of the Czech Republic is not bad.

“And even if in a few years we don’t have the same salaries as in Germany, our future prosperity would certainly be supported if they were – just like in Germany – paid in the European currency,” he emphasized and once again supported the entry of the Czech Republic into the eurozone .

With salaries like in Germany, Pavel alluded to the statement of Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala. During the year, he repeatedly said that if the voters gave him the opportunity to form another government, he would ensure that in a few years Czechs would have wages like Germans.

In his speech, Pavel criticized that people are losing the ability to talk and listen to each other. According to him, the fact that the speech of politicians is increasingly reduced to marketing slogans, which have little to do with the essence of the matter, also contributes to this.

“Even a word as pure as peace has become subject to marketing distortion. As a person who has gone through wars, I am very aware of the value of peace and the price for it. I am sure that all judicial people want to live in peace and that it is definitely not what should divide us. Let’s not let it be imposed on us,” the president called on the people.

He reminded that the Czech Republic is awaiting elections to the Chamber of Deputies this year and warned against the spread of misinformation. “We will face distortions of the truth or outright lies even more than before,” he pointed out.

According to him, it is essential that the Czech Republic has a government that guarantees that the Czech Republic will continue to be a safe state in which freedom is preserved, laws work, law enforcement is fair, and there is a fair environment for life and business.

In the election year, he wants to remind more of important topics that have a real potential to change life for the better. According to him, the goal will be to create space for an honest debate between political parties based on arguments and facts. It also wants to limit the influence of half-truths and mutual accusations.

In conclusion, he added that both the Czech Republic and Europe should be much more active in the coming year and should use all opportunities to implement major changes.
