Pedro Nuno Santos optimistic about the 2025 State Budget negotiations but not afraid of elections – Politics

Pedro Nuno Santos clarified this Wednesday, in an interview with NOW, that he is not afraid of going to elections, if the State Budget is not approved.

“I have no fear of going to elections,” said the socialist leader, who placed the responsibility of making the Budget viable on the Government.

“If the Government is not willing to give in frankly, then we will have difficulty (in making it viable),” he added.

Pedro Nuno Santos said that the Socialist Party is not available to approve the budget, but admits making it viable.

“We are willing to give in to a large extent”, he admits, but added: “the Government does not have an absolute majority and that has consequences. A relative majority requires negotiations”.

Despite not specifying the concrete requirements for the viability of the budget, Pedro Nuno Santos points out areas that are more relevant to the socialists, such as Education, Social Security and taxes.

Recalling the topic that gained prominence in the State of the Nation debate, the PS leader highlighted that the Government’s concessions on the IRC issue will not be enough to lead the socialists to approve the State Budget.

“It is not a measure that makes up the State Budget,” he clarified.

However, Pedro Nuno Santos says: “I am going into these negotiations with optimism”.
