Pedro Nuno says that negotiating the Budget made it possible to reduce the damage that the Government was going to impose on the country – Politics

The PS leader considered this Monday that the negotiation of the State Budget made it possible to reduce the damage that the Government would impose on the country, arguing that the socialists have to make a “tough opposition” and “present a true alternative”.

According to socialist sources told the Lusa agency, Pedro Nuno Santos defended these ideas in the opening speech of the meeting of the National Political Commission, which is taking place in Lisbon this evening and which will deliberate on the socialist secretary general’s proposal to make the State Budget viable for 2025 (OE2025) through abstention.

Pedro Nuno Santos defended that the negotiation with the Government, which ended without an agreement, allowed “to reduce the damage that the Government was going to impose on the country”, justifying the fact that he negotiated because, for him, “blank checks” or give “safe conduct” to Luís Montenegro’s executive to “make whatever budget he wanted”.

The PS leader said he did not doubt that the PS did well in negotiating with the Government and considered that without an agreement the socialists are uncommitted to the budget, “but committed to the budget balance”.

Assuming that the challenge is great for the socialists, Pedro Nuno Santos defended that the PS has to do the “hard opposition work” and present “a true alternative to the Government”.
