If it is not possible to stabilize the situation in the parliamentary clubs Hlas and SNS in a short time, early elections as announced by Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer) come into consideration. This was stated by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini on Monday. He declared that he would not participate in the destabilization of the government coalition.
He considers it legitimate that Fico turned to him with a challenge to solve the situation in Hlas, since he knows the people in the party better. However, according to Pellegrini, Gro is always on the Prime Minister’s shoulders. “He must guarantee the majority of his coalition in the parliament, and each prime minister is prime minister only as long as he has more than 76 votes in the parliament,” the president pointed out.
According to his own words, Pellegrini can give Hlas management well-intentioned advice on how they should act. “I don’t know if I have such strength and such possibilities today that I can suddenly change the view of the deputies, who do not always agree with everything that comes out of the government coalition, just by some negotiation or magic wand,” he said.
Prime Minister Fico said in a talk show on Sunday that if the coalition parties Hlas and SNS do not resolve the disputes in their parties, we will have to go to early elections. The second possibility is that the coalition agreement will be opened and the conditions in the coalition will change. At the same time, he declared that he would do everything to make the coalition last. He also clarified that the parliamentary club Smer is stable.
