Penalties for Hamilton and Ocon, starting from the pit lane in Azerbaijan

Penalties continue at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, as – after Zhou Guanyu, for exceeding the power unit parts change limit, and Pierre Gasly for violating the engine fuel flow limit – Lewis Hamilton and Esteban Ocon will start the race from the pit lane.

The mechanics of the two Mercedes and Alpine drivers respectively fitted many new parts to the power units after qualifying, exceeding their limit for the season.

Hamilton would start the race from 7th place, but with the fifth internal combustion engine (ICE) of the season on the back of his W15, as well as the new -5th- turbo (TC), new -5th- MGU- H and the new -5th- MGU-K, will be forced to start from the pits.

For his part, Ocon – who is celebrating his 150th career Grand Prix – has also fitted a new ICE, TC and MGU-H, also exceeding his limit for the season. However, the Frenchman finished last in Saturday’s qualifying after suffering reliability problems.
