Pensions up to two IAS will increase by 2.6% in 2025, in addition to the 1.25% proposed by the PS and made possible in parliament, for a total of 3.9%.
According to the quick estimate released today by INE, the average inflation of the last 12 months, without housing, referring to November, was 2.10%, which makes it possible to define the automatic updating of pensions next year, in a formula that takes into account the growth rate of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the last two years.
Based on these indicators and taking into account the legal rules in force, pensions up to two Social Support Indexes (IAS) – around 1,040 euros – increase by 2.6% from January according to the legal formula. With the increase proposed by the PT member, the update will be 3.9%.
Retirements between two and up to three IAS (between R$ 1,045 and R$ 1,567.5) increase by 3.35%: 2.10% according to the formula provided for by law and 1.25% through the extraordinary measure.
In these first three levels of values are more than 90% of pensions which, in January, will therefore have a more generous increase than that which would result from the mere application of the law and whose impact on expenditure (which is permanent) was assessed by the Technical Unit of Budget Support at around 270 million euros.
For pensions worth more than three indexes, the increase resulting from the legal formula applies.
Thus, pensions between three and up to six IAS (i.e. up to 3,135 euros) will be updated by 2.10%. Those whose value is between six and up to 12 IAS (6,270 euros) will increase by 1.85% in 2025.
In practice, these increases mean that a pension of 420 euros will increase by 16.38 euros from January onwards, while a pension of 990 euros will increase by 38.61 euros and a pension of 1,400 will be updated by 46.9 euros.
Without the additional increase of 1.25 percentage points registered during the vote on the specialty of the proposals to change the State Budget for 2025 (OE2025), those three pensions would have increases of, in the same order as the examples, 10.92 euros; 25.74 euros and 29.40 euros.
For higher value pensions, and taking into account the calculations that can be made based on the quick estimate of inflation advanced today by the INE, the increase will be 52.50 euros, and 94.35 euros for a pension of 5,100 gross monthly euros.
All these values will still have to be confirmed based on the definitive inflation value in November that INE will release on December 11th. .
In 2025, and for the first time, pensions granted throughout 2024 will also be updated from January onwards.
According to data provided to Lusa by the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, until November, 155,479 new old-age, disability and survival pensions were granted, under contributory and non-contributory regimes.
