People’s Artist of Russia Rubina Kalantaryan Dies in St. Petersburg

She was 99 years old.

People’s Artist of Russia and the Armenian SSR Rubina Kalantaryan has died in St. Petersburg at the age of 100. Her health has deteriorated sharply in recent times.

The singer was born in Armenia, but lived most of her life in the Northern capital. She became famous thanks to her romances, wartime songs, pop compositions and opera parts.

During the Soviet years, Kalantaryan often traveled around the country with concerts. The singer’s solo program was first presented in 1959. In 1988, the artist released the song “Armenia, My Pain and Love”, dedicated to the earthquake in Spitak.

In the 1900s, Kalantaryan headed the creative workshop of variety art at Lenconcert. Then she began to teach vocal classes.

Earlier, the founder of the Theatre of Rains, Natalia Nikitina, died in St. Petersburg.
