20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, the perpetrator behind the assassination of former US President Donald Trump, had searched for the assassination of John F. Kennedy on the Internet before the shooting took place.
This is what Chris Wray, who is the director of the US Federal Police, FBI, told a committee in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, according to Reuters.
Trump, who was named the Republican presidential nominee earlier this month, was grazed by a bullet in his right ear during a rally in the state of Pennsylvania on July 13.
He was not seriously injured.
In turn, a man in the audience lost his life and two other male participants were injured. They were initially in critical condition. They have since been stabilized.
Thomas Matthew Crooks was shot and killed by Secret Service gunmen immediately after Trump and the three men in the audience were hit by gunfire.
He was lying on a roof about 135 meters from Trump, who was in the process of giving a speech from the stage, when the shooting took place.
According to Chris Wray, Thomas Matthew Crooks became ‘very focused’ on Trump and his rally a week before – around July 6.
He had done a Google search asking ‘how far away was Oswald from Kennedy?’
Lee Harvey Oswald was an American warehouse worker who in 1963 was arrested and charged with the assassination of the then President of the United States, John F. Kennedy.
The president was shot and killed during a parade in the city of Dallas in the state of Texas.
Lee Harvey Oswald was killed the same year by nightclub owner Jack Ruby, who explained to the police that he wanted to avenge the president and spare John F. Kennedy’s widow, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, to appear in court.
According to CNN, Chris Wray says on Wednesday that Thomas Matthew Crooks had flown a drone near where the caucus was held two hours before the caucus.
The drone was in the air for approximately 11 minutes, says the FBI director.
