Do was appointed creative director at the New York brand in May 2023 with the task of giving the brand a new direction and appealing to a younger generation. Helmut Lang had great expectations of Do as a creative innovator, according to a press release at the time. Despite the enthusiasm, he only released one collection for the brand.
His debut collection for the brand, the Spring/Summer 2024 line, was presented during New York Fashion Week in September. The collection was known for its sleek, minimalist aesthetic, which critics said fit in well with the brand’s heritage.

The fashion designer, who trained at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and won the LVMH Graduate Prize in 2014, previously worked for Céline under Phoebe Philo and Derek Lam.
In addition to his role at Helmut Lang, Do remained active as a designer of his own label, Peter Do, which he founded in 2018. The label distinguishes itself from other labels by its clean lines and precise dimensions, for which Do is known.
Do’s departure raises questions about Helmut Lang’s future and the strategy the brand will now follow. The pre-fall 2025 collection will be Do’s last collection for Helmut Lang.
