Peugeot 508 only with PHEV versions

These are not easy times for vehicles like the Peugeot 508. On the one hand, the pressure of electrification, and on the other the so-called “SUV fever” have caused great damage to the market share that this type of vehicle had in the recent past.

Peugeot is aware that it will be difficult to increase the sales figures of the 508 model. Proof of this is the latest and very important changes that the French manufacturer has made to its well-known D-segment sedan.

Peugeot has reduced the 508 model range to a minimum. The attractive sedan with a hint of a coupe (also available as a SW station wagon) remains without versions that only have an internal combustion engine, because Peugeot is throwing all its cards at electrification. In addition, the 508 loses the equipment levels that played a very important role in its commercial life, it says Klix.ba.

This major “customization” is fueling rumors already calling for an early farewell to the 508 as we know it. There are reports that point to the future transformation of the Peugeot 508 into a pure electric car.

The model that was redesigned at the beginning of last year is now facing a “purge” under the hood. Peugeot has decided to remove versions that only have internal combustion engines from the range, so the 508 is no longer available with petrol or diesel engines in certain EU markets.

The French coupe sedan remains only on plug-in hybrid technology, and customers are given a choice of three PHEV assemblies. All three are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission e-EAT8 and the ecological badge “0 Emissions” with the advantages of mobility that implies.

The entry-level version with the PHEV designation produces 180 hp and, thanks to the 11.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, can travel up to 62 kilometers in all-electric mode. The middle option delivers 225 hp. Both engines have a front-wheel drive configuration.

For drivers looking for more dominant performance, the PSE (Peugeot Sport Engineering) variant is available, which, thanks to the combination of a 1.6-liter turbo petrol with 200 hp and an additional electric motor, develops 360 hp and has all-wheel drive. This model, with an 11.8 kWh battery, simultaneously enables a purely electric range of 46 kilometers.
