The monitor is one of the most important peripherals for every PC. Nowadays, however, many people are interested in laptops that, thanks to their small size, light weight and battery power, the user can always have with them.
The small display that enables the portability of the notebook is sufficient for sending a few e-mails or a quick report, but when working with larger documents or tables you will quickly run into its limits. It is therefore ideal if, after arriving home or at the workplace, you can simply connect the laptop to a larger monitor and comfortably continue working. One such monitor is the tested new Philips 24E1N1300AE. It comes with a simple universal design and a very affordable price. The monitor uses an IPS LCD display with a refresh rate of 100 Hz and excellent viewing angles – up to 178° in both axes. The surface of the panel is anti-reflective, so it prevents reflections of stray lights from the room and surroundings.
The monitor has a simple classic concept without a rotating stand. The panel is adjustable in height and allows the inclination to be adjusted in the range of -5/20°. The processing and stability of the base are excellent. The bezels are thin, about 6mm at the top and sides and 12mm at the bottom. The menu is available in Czech, but not in Slovak. Control is handled by a joystick on the back with an OK/Enter button in the middle. You can use the joystick to access quick menus and menu controls. The controls take a bit of practice, but are more practical than the row of buttons on other models.
Connectivity in this case is not very rich and is limited to a pair of USB-A, HDMI and USB-C ports. However, it supports DisplayPort Alt mode, video and Power Delivery, so the connected laptop will also be powered. The classic headphone output (jack) and classic audio input (jack) are missing, only the output is available. The monitor has a pair of downward-firing speakers with a power of 2 × 2 W. It provides a clear and stable image with well-tuned default modes. However, there is no option to reset the image to factory values without resetting the entire setting. The Philips 24E1N1300AE monitor offers a very good price/performance ratio. Even if there are minor flaws, such as only black and white EasyRead mode and the lack of a power switch, its advantages outweigh it. It is suitable for those looking for an affordable monitor with good performance and lots of features.
