Philips Evnia 32M2N8900 / A picture you won’t see right away

Monitors with a QD OLED panel are an ideal choice for gamers. When you normally work with a PC, you often have a static menu and various icons displayed on the screen, which does not benefit OLED displays much, even though QD OLED technology is more durable in this regard. In contrast, in games, the image changes quickly, which is more suitable for these displays. The new Philips Evnia 32M2N8900 is a gaming monitor that excels in many ways. With its image quality, detailed and smooth displays, deep black tones and excellent color accuracy, it will satisfy even the most demanding users. In addition, it offers a wide range of inputs and a stylish design that fits into modern sets.

The label indicates that the monitor uses a 32″ QD OLED display. It has a 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 240 Hz, which is a combination that meets all the requirements for a high-performance monitor in 2024. The Philips Evnia 32M2N8900 thus aspires to be rated as one of the best gaming monitors and after a few weeks of use I can say that it is not far from it.

At first glance, the monitor impresses with its design. The structured stand and the elegant white-silver finish create a modern look that will not offend on any table and fits into the Evnia product line. The large 32-inch display has minimal frames at the top and on the sides. Marking with small Evnia and Philips logos in the lower corners is unobtrusive. The back of the monitor is more angular and features a three-sided version of Ambiglow LED lighting that projects light onto the wall behind the monitor to enhance the atmosphere. This technology is known from Philips TVs as well as from other Evnia models. The monitor stands on a sturdy base made of thick aluminum and offers 130 mm height adjustment, as well as tilt and swivel. There is also a small hook on the stand for hanging headphones. However, the monitor does not allow turning to the pivot position, which is a bit of a shame, especially considering the display used. Mounting the stand is very simple, just screw the base and the monitor is ready for use. In the package, you will also receive a holder for VESA mounting, if you want to attach the monitor to the wall or another holder.

The selection of entrees is excellent. There are two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 and a USB-C port with support for DP Alt mode for video and up to 90 W of power. Furthermore, there is a USB hub with a USB-B port to power a pair of USB-A data ports. However, it lacks the KVM switch that some competing models offer. The monitor also offers a USB-C port, which is welcome for connecting modern laptops with a single cable. Unlike some other monitors, the Evnia 32M2N8900 is equipped with built-in speakers with a power of 2 × 5 W. They are sufficient for basic use, but do not reach the sound quality of separate speakers or a soundbar.

Control of the extensive OSD menu of the monitor is performed using a joystick located on the back right side of the monitor. This controller also doubles as a power button, with a small LED indicating the monitor’s status.

Thanks to its 32-inch 4K QD-OLED panel, the monitor offers amazing visual experiences. Contrast is excellent, blacks are deep, and colors are accurate and vivid across a variety of content—from games to movies. The measurements confirmed the excellent color accuracy of the monitor with coverage of 99% DCI-P3 and up to 114% Adobe RGB. This means that the monitor is capable of reproducing excellent colors for both routine work and more demanding tasks requiring color accuracy.

The QD-OLED panel achieves an extremely low black value of 0.01 cd/m², which contributes to a high contrast of 16,470:1 and a wide dynamic range. That’s to be expected from this type of panel, but it’s still impressive. A minor weakness is the lower brightness in SDR mode, where the monitor reached a maximum of 219 nits. This is reasonable but not exceptional. OLED panels traditionally do not achieve high brightness in SDR, which is also confirmed by the specifications with a maximum value of 250 nits. When HDR is activated, the brightness increases up to 1000 nits in a 1% window, which allows for excellent color vibrancy. In the widely adjustable menu, you can choose between different game modes, adjust the Ambiglow lighting settings, activate the crosshair on the screen, change inputs, control the volume and more. While the joystick for control can be a little fiddly, it’s significantly better than the row of buttons on the bottom edge that you’ll find on some models. If you are interested in the monitor, its purchase can only be recommended. Nothing beats it in terms of image quality and latency. True, you have to think about the fact that it is a premium device and its price corresponds to that. It is aimed primarily at users who are looking for top-quality image quality and have a setup capable of using 4K resolution at high refresh rates. All in all, the novelty belongs to the best that you can treat yourself to in monitors today.
