Qualcomm’s new flagship chipset, Snapdragon 8 Elite, proves to provide significant improvements in both battery efficiency and performance compared to its predecessor, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. YouTuber Dave2D recently ran several benchmarks and real-world tests on two smartphones with the new processor, revealing impressive results.
Dave2D tested the Chinese version of the OnePlus 13 with a 6000mAh battery and the global ROG Phone 9 Pro model with a 5800mAh battery using the PCMark Battery test with screen brightness of 250 nits. The results showed impressive durability; The OnePlus 13 lasted 17 hours and 25 minutes, while the ROG Phone 9 Pro lasted 14 hours and 29 minutes. These figures represent 43% and 30% battery life improvements, respectively, compared to their predecessors.
Snapdragon 8 Elite also improves gaming performance. Dave2D tested the OnePlus 13 and ROG Phone 9 Pro with Genshin Impact, a game known to cause thermal distress on many flagship devices. However, both phones outperformed their predecessors in terms of gaming time and consistent performance.
Thanks to the thermal management and efficiency of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, both devices were able to deliver a smoother gaming experience and higher frame rates for longer periods of time. However, it is worth noting that the tests were conducted in Canada and the colder climate may have affected the results and performance may vary in warmer regions.
Snapdragon 8 Elite shows a lot of potential. Flagship smartphones such as the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Xiaomi 15 series and even the realme GT 7 Pro are expected to offer a better overall experience compared to their predecessors by leveraging the advanced features and efficiency of the chipset.
