Photo: Severina broke the record and moved her fans with her New Year’s message

Severina took the stage with her ten-member accompanying orchestra half an hour before midnight and for the next two and a half hours thrilled the audience, which filled one of the main streets in Sarajevo to the last corner. According to the police, more than 55,000 people are the highest attendance achieved by any performer at a concert before the Eternal Flame.

The carefully selected repertoire consisted of around thirty of Severina’s greatest hits, and for this occasion she supplemented it with some of her favorite songs, such as “Sarajevo, ljubavi moja” by Kemal Monten, with which she entertained the people of Sarajevo and many other visitors in her designer costume Juraj Zigman took her to the year 2025. Shortly before that, the mayor of Sarajevo joined her on stage Predrag Puharić, Jutranji list reports.

Last night’s reception here was the New Year’s center of the region, Europe, and the world. People here have survived the war, but their souls always forgive. My heart beats for this place because it reminds me of my Split. Because Sarajevo and Split gave the best singers and musicians, we all know which ones… Never anyone like them, and never anyone like raja from Sarajevo. Beautiful, happy, musical… I felt like that student who was prevented by the war from coming to study in Sarajevo, but also like a twelve-year-old girl who went ‘crazy with happiness’ last night because I was singing next to the Eternal Fire.. Hey, to the eternal fire that never went out, even when the shells fell. And at the monument to the children who died in this nonsense. Just 1601. What our/my favorite Balašević said: ‘Sarajevo is of the middle sex’. Like a child – playful, simple, naive, gullible, childish… That’s why he stretches his hands first. Thank you for the most beautiful reception, where Sarajevo showed that it is a ‘faca’,” she stated.

Just looking at you, it feels amazing… Thank you, Sarajevo, for being your backing vocals most of the time last night. May this year bring us peace – to all of us and to the entire region, in fact to the whole of Yugoslavia – a Yugoslavia that was divided by politics, but we are uniting it. I love you, my dear Sarajevo, and deep respect,” the 52-year-old singer said.
