PHOTOVOLTAGE SYSTEMS IN SCHOOLS IN VIENNA

In order for the city of Vienna to achieve its goal of becoming climate neutral by 2040, a larger amount of electricity from solar energy will be needed in the future. In this sense, the plan is to apply photovoltaic systems in the future also in the construction of schools, according to the press release of the Office of the City of Vienna in Belgrade.

As of 2021, the capacity of solar energy in Vienna has more than tripled, and every year the installation of photovoltaic systems will expand by an area of about one hundred soccer fields. The goal for this year has already been achieved. According to information from the city administration of Vienna, about 10,000 photovoltaic plants could provide enough electricity for over 57,500 households.

In the coming years, the target will be even higher and even more plants will be needed. That is why the budget for subsidies and offers for companies and private individuals has been increased, it is stated. The solar energy offensive in Vienna is one of the steps and one of hundreds of measures to achieve climate neutrality by 2040. The mayor of Vienna, Mihael Ludwig, announced a special Viennese law on climate protection, which will include all climate protection measures. The text of the law, which has been worked on for about two years, will be presented this year, Ludvig said.

In addition to photovoltaic systems, during the transition from gas for about 600,000 households, the use of geothermal energy and large heat pumps will be increased. A special law on climate protection for the capital has been part of the coalition agreement between coalition partners SPÖ and NEOS in Vienna since 2020.
