Pilo and the Holobook is a game developed by Mudita Games and published by RedDeer.Games. In this colorful adventure, we follow Phil through the galaxy, where he records various objects in his book in order to collect stickers and prove to the council that he’s been in space… or, at least, that was the original plan! However, it turns out that there is a mysterious and dark force known as Tar, and Pilo will have to uncover the story behind it.
I have to be painfully honest here — sometimes I’m really down, especially when I’m playing a game and recording it for the world. There’s something about my brain just blocking out when others are looking at me, so I got stuck in the demo because of the puzzles. Pilo and the Holobook doesn’t offer much “hand holding”; you have to find your own way and solve the puzzles, and I really appreciate that! I like it when the game trusts me to figure out what I need to do, whether it takes five minutes or five hours. It takes me back to my childhood when my mom and I would play games and get stuck for hours or days because back then there was no “just google it.”
Before I got stuck, I really enjoyed it! Pilo and the Holobook is a very charming game, from the animations and ability to collect stickers (I love stickers!) to the dialogue. It has that feel of a game I would have played on the PlayStation back in the day, like Ratchet & Clankbut without platforming or shooting, and many more puzzles.
Then again, I didn’t get to experience everything the demo had to offer, so I have no idea if we’ll be able to do anything with the stickers (I can only assume we will) or what we’ll be able to accomplish if we fill the gauge after getting the planet sticker, but I bet that will be fun. I recommend anyone who likes puzzle adventure games to try the demo while it’s still available Steam Next Fest-abecause a beautiful adventure awaits you! If you like it, don’t forget to add the game to your wish list. Release date for Pilo and the Holobook it’s not released yet, but hopefully it will be soon!
