The Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, guaranteed that for high-speed rail “we will not buy as many trains as CP wanted”, stressing that “we want private companies in this competition, both Portuguese and foreign”.
The public railway operator had the intention to invest 520 million euros in the purchase of 16 new high-speed trainshaving announced the launch of the tender for the acquisition of rolling stock for the future Lisbon-Porto line later this year.
This Wednesday, in Parliament, the minister stressed that “CP had the ambition to buy trains that would would give an 80% share. I think this is not healthy for the market.”
“It is healthy for the market not to invest so much in trains”, Miguel Pinto Luz also stressed, ensuring that CP “will be in the market, aggressive, with good quality of service, but will not have a monopoly with this Government and with our vision of the economy”.
