A developer succeeded in creating a game Tetris fully functional in a PDF file. In doing so, the game can run on any computer and in most browsers, since this format is widely supported.
Usually it is Doom that we use to tinker with things. We even saw a Captcha used Doom to check if we are indeed human. But this time, it’s Tetris which is in the spotlight. A developer has created a fully playable version of the famous interlocking brick puzzle in a PDF file.
Tetris in a PDF file: it exists
It was Dutch developer and IT security analyst Thomas Rinsma who shared on its creation: a Tetris in a PDF file, called PDFtris. It is abouta simple link that can be opened on any browser, on computer. To play it, there is nothing to install, no need to modify the PDF: you can click on “ Start game » and start the game.
You can control the small bricks using buttons located below the grid, or use the WASD keys (we cannot use ZQSD or the arrows unfortunately). For each completed line, you earn one point. Unlike many other versions of Tetristhe difficulty does not increase over time.
PDF file requires, the interface is not at all stylized and there may be some graphical bugs. But, the feat is impressive: the project code is available on GitHub. Everything was programmed in Python and the PDF only includes plain text, no images.
There is even an option to save your score, or rather a trick to keep it. You can print the PDF file which will proudly show it to all your colleagues.
