PlayStation 5 Pro: Everything about Sony’s new console!

We didn’t have time to calm down from the storm of announcements we had yesterday from Apple and today (10/9) Sony took over, which (as you would already know) proceeded with the official unveiling of the PlayStation 5 Pro! The new Pro, an upgraded version of the mid-generation PS5, which will be released on November 7, 2024 with a price of $699.99 for the American market and $799.99 for the European market. Designed similarly to the PS5 “slim” model but with a distinctive triple groove, the PS5 Pro will only be available in a digital version. However, it will be compatible with Sony’s existing add-on optical drive, which costs $79.99.

The PS5 Pro promises significantly improved performance, focusing on three key technologies: a larger k and more capable GPU, faster memory for 45% faster graphics performance and advanced ray tracing technology, which according to the Japanese gaming giant is two to three times faster than the base PS5. In addition, as it became known, this upgraded PlayStation 5 will also feature an AI-driven upscaler, which improves the screen resolution and the clarity of the image, thus producing a more crystal-clear result in the visuals. In the relevant presentation video, Mark Cerny (architect of the PlayStation consoles), emphasized that the PlayStation 5 Pro aims to eliminate the need for players to choose between “fidelity mode” (high graphic quality) and “performance mode” (higher frame rate).

In his presentation, Cerny showed how several games, such as The Last of Us Part 2 Remasteredthey will benefit by running in fidelity mode at 60 frames per second instead of 30 fps. Performance modes in various games will also feature cleaner, higher-resolution visuals. Other games featured include Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7 and Hogwarts Legacywith improved graphics and performance. Enhanced versions of first and third party games such as Alan Wake 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are also in development. A new feature, Game Boost, is designed to stabilize or improve performance for existing PS5 and PS4 compatible games. In addition, some PS4 games will benefit from Enhanced Image Quality, improving their resolution.

While the PS5 Pro will offer excellent image quality, especially for 4K displays, and better ray tracing, its main advantage will be smoother, more stable performance, rather than a dramatic increase in frames per second. And if all of the above certainly intrigues Sony fans, the truth is that with a price of 699.99 pounds in the UK and 799.99 euros in Europe, there will certainly not be a few gamers who will consider this “upgrade” accurate. A reasonable skepticism that is also strengthened by the fact that at the moment there are no major changes in TV technology that are able to fully unlock the range of dynamics of the new upgraded PlayStation 5. However, many analysts believe that Sony could capitalize on its circulation Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025 to promote the PS5 Pro as the ultimate platform for the highly anticipated game.

Be that as it may, we will know a lot more about the new PlayStation on November 7th… That’s why get ready this year’s Christmas will belong to the PlayStation 5 Pro!
