Playstation 6 can be released in two versions

The PS5 Pro was unveiled just over a week ago, and rumors have already started swirling around the next Playstation generation. The delicious KeplerL2 claims that AMD is developing two different chipsets for the PS6, suggesting that Sony plans to release more than one PlayStation console in the next generation.

According to KeplerL2, this suggests that the PlayStation 6 will be launched in two variants, with one being cheaper than the other, similar to how Microsoft has released the Xbox Series X and the cheaper Series S this generation. KeplerL2 also suggested that Sony might want to release a desktop console and a new handheld console, but later clarified that both chipsets are intended for the PS6.

Tomas Helenius, editor at FZ, believes that there is a market for cheaper Playstation consoles.

– Sony can probably succeed well with a cheap and powerful PS6 console. Tens of millions have bought PS5s for several thousand kroner more than consoles previously cost, and with a cheap and an expensive PS6 model there is a chance to sell well to both everyday players and gamers. I think many people would have appreciated a simpler machine that you can spontaneously buy without breaking the bank, while fans have already shown that they are prepared to pay for power, he says.

We previously reported that Sony chose AMD to develop the circuits for the PS6, after negotiations with Intel fell through. AMD offered more competitive prices and has also developed the circuits for both PS4 and PS5, facilitating backwards compatibility for the next console.

With the PS5 Pro recently revealed and launching in November, the current console generation still has a few years left in its life cycle. That means more details about the PS6 are likely to emerge in the future.
