Ploiesti, urban art laboratory

During the period 4-20 October 2024, Ploiesti became the epicenter of creativity and artistic expression. The third edition of Artown Festival redefined the public space and activated the UZUC factory, bringing together over 50 artists from 10 countries to celebrate urban art with the community. Visual stories they completely transformed the local cultural landscape.

Artown Festival brought this year to the community 19 murals by established and emerging artists, each promoting the spirit of diversity and cross-cultural connection. From social themes to abstract and dreamlike creations, these works have transformed the city streets into an open gallery that invites passers-by to rediscover the urban space.

In a special location of the UZUC factory (now Urban Zone of Unconventional Culture), in space fire station, the festival hosted EXHIBITION Butaforiesigned by Cristian Sisea, again artistic installations they completed the innovative perspective on the city and its history. The activation of the redeveloped industrial space is now a nucleus for contemporary art thanks to the three spaces of the UZUC factory: the fire station, the large hall (which houses the architecture pavilion following the collaboration with the artist Alessandro Rocchi) and the hall that was the nucleus where they took place the 60 events.

The public will be able to continue to explore this unconventional location that has become a symbol of the city, whether it is about participating in events or discovering new works of art, such as the sculpture of the artist Ciprian Tauciuc – a totem that has been transformed on the occasion of this edition into the protector of the festival.

In addition to these, the festival proposed a marathon of artistic experiences, with over 60 events which included workshops, film screenings, theater performances, original performances, film screenings, poetry evenings, street art interventions and concerts. Artown Festival brought to the fore street art interventionsoffering the people of Ploiești a series of creative surprises. The interventions, strategically placed in various urban areas, allow the inhabitants to connect more deeply with the everyday space, discover new perspectives on the city and notice otherwise overlooked details. Through this initiative, the festival encourages us to look more closely at the public space, inspiring the people of Ploiești to reclaim and rediscover the city. Each work becomes an exhortation for passers-by to appreciate the urban landscape, to see art as an integral part of everyday life to feel that the city truly belongs to them.

Each event contributed to the creation of an interactive artistic universe and transformed the city into a cultural intersection for its residents and the many visitors who attended the festival. Artown Festival reconfirmed the role of art: creating a community and revitalizing public spaces so that the city transforms into a meeting place and cultural exchange.

Artown is a festival dedicated to urban art, born from the desire to reimagine cities, implicitly industrial spaces. Every year, the festival transforms an unconventional place in Ploiesti into a meeting point of art, music and community.
