After four defeats in a row, FC Midtjylland got back on the winning track with a 1-0 win at home over Silkeborg in Monday’s match in the Super League.
In the two most recent league matches, FCM had lost to Viborg and Brøndby, and in addition, the mid-judges had also conceded defeat in the cup and in the Europa League recently.
Therefore, it was uplifting for Thomas Thomasberg’s troops to win a match again.
With the victory, FCM moves up to the side of the title rivals from FC Copenhagen in first place. Both teams have 30 points after 16 games. FCK leads on a better goal score.
The two top teams have a slight lead down to AGF and Randers FC with 27 points and FC Nordsjælland with 26 points.
Silkeborg completes the top 6 with 25 points, who go on to the championship game. Brøndby is currently outside the fine company with 24 points.
Monday’s match in Herning was postponed for a quarter of an hour due to a traffic accident close to the stadium.
When the match first got underway, Silkeborg had most of the ball. However, it was FCM who came up with the most chances and also scored the only goal of the match.
The 1-0 goal was scored by FCM striker Adam Buksa ten minutes before the break. Buksa brilliantly headed a cross from Joel Andersson into the net.
Silkeborg’s offensive was completely harmless in the first half, and FCM could only be upset that the lead was not increased.
With the narrow lead, Silkeborg was always in the game, and the away team also started to play better offensively.
FCM could thank goalkeeper Elias Olafsson on several occasions for keeping the away team from scoring.
Olafsson also stood in the way of a close finish in added time, so all three points went to the Herning team.
