Police name suspected murderer in Copenhagen

A 47-year-old man, who is charged with the murder of a 71-year-old man, will appear in a constitutional hearing at the Court in Frederiksberg on Friday at 11am.

In addition, the police are still looking for a 35-year-old man in relation to the case.

This is what central investigation manager Nicklas Poulsen from the Copenhagen Police says.

The police received a report about the stabbing in Copenhagen’s north-west quarter on Thursday at 16:49. The assault took place on Birkedommervej, and the 47-year-old man was then arrested at the Coop 365 supermarket and charged with murder.

According to the police, it is not a case of gang crime, and the arrested and the person killed are not related to each other, according to the central investigation manager.

According to the police, the 47-year-old was not alone in the crime, and on Friday morning the Copenhagen Police put the name and picture of the man they are looking for.

It is about 35-year-old Benjamin Bade Bentzen, who was previously called Lasse Daugaard Bentzen. A third first name is also mentioned in the search warrant, but this is incorrect, the police confirm.

According to the police, the man knows he is wanted.

– Based on the investigation, we have reason to believe that the 35-year-old man was involved in the murder. He has no doubt that we are looking for him, so I would encourage him to turn himself in, says Deputy Police Inspector Brian Belling from the Copenhagen Police in the appeal.

If anyone sees him or knows where he is, please contact the police on telephone number 114.

Benjamin Bade Bentzen is described as a man, 35 years old, 184 centimeters tall, of average to heavy build, fair skin and with short dark hair and a beard.

On Thursday, he was wearing a blue sweater, black sweatpants, on which “FIGHTX” is printed in gold. He was wearing black sneakers with white soles and he was carrying a black shoulder bag.

The wanted man has a tattoo on one finger.

After the murder, the police set up a mobile office at the crime scene, just as technicians were called in. The police are also present in the area on Friday. It is with reassurance-creating patrols that you can contact if you are, for example, insecure or worried.

It is not clear before the hearing how the 47-year-old relates to the charge.
