BYD Sealion 7, a car whose task is to attract Tesla Model Y customers, has just officially debuted in Poland. And although the group of Chinese automotive enthusiasts is growing in our country, the prices just presented will effectively cool down their enthusiasm. Yes, Tesla’s bestseller has a rival, but with these prices, the managers of the brand’s Polish branch can sleep peacefully.
Are Chinese cars a cheaper alternative? Not this time
Without further ado, let’s take a look at the Polish price list of BYD Sealion 7. The basic Comfort version was priced at PLN 219,900. What do we get in return? Among other things, a battery with a capacity of 82.5 kWh, which is enough for a range of 482 km (WLTP). In addition, charging with a maximum power of 150 kW, rear-wheel drive with a 230 kW engine, seats finished with vegan leather, 360 panoramic camera, Dynaudio sound system and panoramic roof with electrically adjustable sun visor.
Another one in the price list the Design AWD version costs PLN 239,900. Due to all-wheel drive and two engines (390 kW in total), it offers a shorter range (456 km WLTP). The higher price also managed to fit 20-inch Michelin tires and red brake calipers. iTAC (intelligent torque management) is also available.
For PLN 247,900 we can buy the Excellence AWD variantthe price of which is PLN 247,900. For those who choose it, BYD offers a battery with a larger capacity (91.3 kWh), a range of 502 km (WLTP), a maximum charging power of 230 kW, a HUD display and seats finished with natural leather.
BYD Sealion 7 vs. Tesla Model Y: this is not the way to go
Chinese cars may gain popularity if they are a cheaper alternative to vehicles from Europe, the USA, South Korea or Japan. Meanwhile, in the case of BYD Sealion 7, yes, it is an alternative, but certainly not cheaper. Let’s compare the individual versions.
BYD Sealion 7 in the Comfort version costs PLN 219,900, while Tesla Model Y with rear-wheel drive costs PLN 204,990. To tell the truth, I doubt whether anyone will decide to pay an extra PLN 14,000 for a Chinese competitor. BYD Sealion 7 in the Design AWD version costs PLN 239,900, and Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD costs PLN 224,990. This time, almost PLN 15,000 more for BYD. Only the Excellence AWD variant is cheaper than the Model Y Performance. It costs PLN 247,900 and Tesla costs PLN 257,990.
A very interesting car debuted on the Polish market, which we could see during its European premiere. Unfortunately, at this price it will not arouse much interest. It’s a pity, because it has really great potential.
