Politician dead – was 60 years old

Member of Parliament of the Sweden Democrats Lars Wistedt60, has died, the party confirms to Sweden’s Radio.

Died quickly on the trip

He passed away suddenly during a trip with the NATO delegation in Canada on Monday night, local time. In an internal email to SD’s parliamentary group, group leader Linda Lindberg writes that the colleague “leaves a big void behind”, according to Sweden’s radio.

Minister of Defence Paul Jonson (M) regrets the announcement in a post on the platform X :

“Lars was highly valued, knowledgeable and deeply committed to the rearmament of defense and support to Ukraine. My thoughts go out to his family and relatives,” writes Jonson.

Also Ardalan Shekarabi (S), vice chairman of the Riksdag’s justice committee, comments on the death of his Riksdag colleague.

“Extremely sad. A respectful, knowledgeable and friendly colleague. My thoughts go out to his family and friends,” he writes X.

Wistedt became a member of the Riksdag after the election in 2022. Before his career in politics, he worked in the Armed Forces as an officer, until 2008. After that, he worked with security issues at ABB and Seco Tools, Expressen writes.

Wistedt was 60 years old.
