The death of Jean-Marie Le Pen left a deep mark on French public life. The politician, who founded the National Front in 1972 – today National Compaction – was one of the defining figures of France with his long and controversial career. Many politicians reacted to the news of his death, emphasizing his merits and the ideals he represented.
Eric Zemmour, the French right-wing politician and public writer, remembered him as follows:
In addition to the scandals and controversies, what posterity will preserve from him is that he was one of the first to warn France about the threats that were lurking. What remains is the vision and courage of a man who set an example in an era when brave men were not very common.
Jordan Bardella, the current president of the National Compact, also expressed his condolences, praising Le Pen’s decades of work:
He fought in the uniform of the French army in Indochina and Algeria, as an advocate of the people in the National Assembly and the European Parliament. He always served France, protecting its identity and sovereignty.
Sébastien Chenu, vice-president of the National Consolidation, said goodbye on social media:
With the death of Jean-Marie Le Pen, we have lost a great patriot, a visionary and the epitome of courage. A man of great education who carried the hope of millions. He loved France and now he has entered its history.
