The range of the restyled Porsche 911 (992.2) continues to expand. After the Carrera, Carrera T, GT3 and GTS T-Hybrid, here is the heart of the range: the Carrera S.
It’s difficult to navigate the Porsche 911 range. Even if overall all the models are there to provide immeasurable pleasure to their lucky owners, they don’t all do it in the same way.
The GT3 for example, who also went through the knife a few weeks agohighlights several senses, starting with the auditory with an atmospheric flat-six that takes up to 9,000 rpm. The “normal” Carrera promises great versatility and almost daily use, while the new GTS T-Hybrid emphasizes two contradictory qualities: sportiness and comfort, all a step above the Carrera S.
The Carrera S has always been the bridge of the 911 range. It returns in this version 992.2, even more powerful of course, but also more expensive.
The new Porsche 911 Carrera S in a few figures
It slots between the 394 hp Carrera and the 541 hp GTS. Its 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six develops 480 chwhich is the same power as the 991.2 GTS. It is an increase of 30 hp compared to the 992.1 Carrera S. The six-cylinder gets two new turbos, while the cooling of the charge air has been optimized. The couple does not evolve and always proposes 530 Nm.
The manual gearbox is not offered, the car only receives an eight-speed PDK gearbox responsible for sending power to the rear wheels only. Concerning the figures, this new Carrera S achieves 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and can reach 308 km/h cutting edge. The convertible version requires 3.7 seconds for the same exercise, the same time as the 992.1 Carrera S.
An addition that ran
Porsche announces that it has improved the standard equipment of the Carrera S, notably with the sports exhaust or the Porsche Torque Vectorial Plus (PTV+), which will no doubt make the pill of an increasingly hefty bill easier to swallow. The braking system is taken from the Carrera GTS with 408 mm discs at the front and 380 mm at the rear. The rear seats are no longer standard, but are still available as a free option.
The new Porsche 911 Carrera S is now available to order for 157 300 euroset 171 500 euros for the convertible version. To this, we must add the inevitable penalty of 60,000 euros and the few essential options, which will have the effect of increasing the bill to 220,000 euros minimum. When we know that at this same price a GT3 RS was still accessible new a few years ago, it stings! As a reminder, the 992.1 Carrera S started at 140,495 euros, and 154,885 euros for the convertible.
