Porsche’s 911 is no longer a completely purist model. Turbo engines, adaptive suspension, automatic transmission and a host of assistance systems for superior comfort, all for the benefit of the well-to-do (and often older) clientele of the 911. Do you want to concentrate on the essence and still drive a 911? Now there is a new edition of the Carrera T model.
Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty: the Porsche 911 Carrera T (where the “T” stands for “Touring”) is powered by the 3.0-liter six-cylinder biturbo boxer engine from the 911 Carrera. The engine develops 394 hp and a maximum torque of 450 Nm. Power is transmitted to the rear axle via a six-speed manual gearbox. When changing to a lower gear, the intermediate throttle function automatically and precisely equalizes the difference in revolutions between the engine and the gearbox, as desired by the driver.
With the standard Sport Chrono package, the Carrera T coupe accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds (the convertible needs 4.7 seconds). The maximum speed is 295 km/h (maximum 293 km/h without the roof). Parallel to the increase in power, the brakes have also been strengthened with larger discs with a diameter of 350 mm and six-piston fixed calipers on the front axle.
For the first time, Porsche equips this model with standard rear axle steering combined with a more direct steering transmission on the front axle. Lateral acceleration is achieved faster, steering is more direct, and driving stability is increased. The adaptive sports suspension lowered by 10 mm has a special sports setting. The Porsche 911 Carrera T comes on lightweight Carrera S aluminum wheels, measuring 20/21 inches. The tires on the front axle are 245/35 ZR20, and the rear is 305/30 ZR21.
Visually, the T model is distinguished from the standard Carrera model by, among other things, a sticker with a schematic representation of the transmission logo on the rear triangular window. Another characteristic element of the Carrera T model is the aerodynamically optimized front spoiler, taken from the 911 Carrera GTS. A number of body colors were offered, while options for the fabric roof on the 911 T Cabriolet were limited to black, red, blue and brown.
What is the most interesting thing about the interior? Probably a shortened open-pore walnut shifter. In front of the lever there is a plate with the inscription “MT” (for “Manual Transmission”). On the instrument panel on the passenger side, the logo of the schematic view of the gearbox is printed again.
The standard equipment includes a leather-wrapped GT sports steering wheel with a steering wheel heater and a switch for changing the driving mode. Alternatively, a steering wheel with a Race-Tex cover is available.
The new Porsche 911 Carrera T is available in Germany at a price of 141,700 euros, while the 911 Carrera T Cabriolet can be purchased from 155,800 euros.
