Porsche has expanded its electric Macan lineup with two new models, including a rear-wheel drive model

During difficult times for the Volkswagen Group, the Porsche crossover family helped it survive, and with the appearance of electric versions of the Macan in the brand’s range, special attention is being paid to updating the model range. Two more versions of the electric crossover have been added to the two already existing versions, and a conditionally off-road body kit can now be ordered for all Macan modifications.

The latter, as Electrek notes, mainly comes down to the presence of a more slanted lower front bumper, which increases the approach angle to a ridiculous 17.5 degrees by the standards of serious SUVs. However, cars with an off-road package have a different air suspension setup. In its normal position, it increases ground clearance by 10 mm to 195 mm, and in the extreme upper position, the clearance grows to a serious 225 mm, but you can only move in this mode for a short time and at low speed.

It is important that the electric Porsche Macan lineup now includes a basic rear-wheel drive version (in the first photo), which will be offered in the US at a price of $75,300, allowing a potential buyer to save $3,500 compared to the all-wheel drive version, and also theoretically increase the range on a single charge. The fact is that the basic version of the Macan has lost the electric motor on the front axle, thereby saving 110 kg of weight, and the capacity of the traction battery has remained the same – 100 kWh. Theoretically, a lighter car should travel more on the same charge, but there are no practical results yet. At the time of its debut on the US market, the all-wheel drive Porsche Macan declared a range of 610 km according to the EPA cycle.

The electric motor retained on the rear axle of the base Porsche Macan is capable of producing a nominal power of 250 kW (335 hp), but in case of sharp acceleration the power increases to 265 kW (355 hp), which in combination with 562 N‧m of torque allows the rear-wheel drive car to accelerate to 100 km/h in about 5.4 seconds. The basic version of the crossover uses the same platform with a voltage of 800 V, which allows, when connected to a 270 kW express charging station, to increase the charge of the traction battery from 10 to 80% in 21 minutes.

The second modification of the electric crossover presented the day before is the Porsche Macan 4S, which will fit between the existing all-wheel drive version of the Macan 4 and the most powerful version of the Macan Turbo. The all-wheel drive Macan 4S crossover received an updated electric motor on the rear axle, which is combined with an inverter based on silicon carbide, allowing the transmission of a current of 600 A. The front electric motor remained the same, and in total the Macan 4S power plant produces 330 kW or 442 hp in nominal mode, and when acceleration is needed, peak power increases to 380 kW or 509 hp.

The Macan 4S reaches 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited to 238 km/h. The all-wheel drive Macan 4 in this sense reaches a speed of 218 km/h, but the flagship Macan Turbo can accelerate to 258 km/h. Adaptive air suspension is standard for this crossover, in the US the Macan 4S version will be offered at a price of $84,900. New modifications of the crossover will appear on the local market in the next quarter.
