The electric car sales they continue to struggle. We know it well. So some manufacturers are reviewing their product plans, announcing a time shift – sometimes with a date “to be defined” – to go all-electric.
Just like recently announced by Porsche. As reported by Automotive News, in fact, the CFO of the company, Lutz Meschke, declared “In the premium and luxury segment there is a clear trend towards cars with internal combustion engines, therefore we will react in our production cycle”.
Not for everyone
As highlighted by AN la share of electric cars in Porsche sales fell to 7.3% in September, down from 12% in September 2023, especially due to the contraction of Taycan registrationstogether with the collapse in the Chinese market (-29%). The expected target for 2025 – with 50% of sales represented by battery-powered models – is therefore more than distant. And it did not break down its PHEV sales until September.
As highlighted by Meschke simply in China, the first electric car market in the world, who buys luxury brand models prefers not to focus on BEVs.
The big news was announced by Meschke
“We are currently examining the possibility of the originally planned fully electric vehicles having a hybrid drive or a combustion engine. We are currently in the middle of the decision-making process. What is clear is that we will continue to use the combustion engine for much longer than expected.”
However, nothing is known about the arrival of the Porsche K1, the large 7-seater electric SUV anticipated some time ago and based on the new SSP Sport electric platform, with 900 Volt batteries and – it seems – powers of up to 1,000 HP.
