Portable wind turbine charges a smartphone in less than 20 minutes

While a few days in nature can be a great escape, many people carry devices like smartphones with them. This portable wind turbine promises to charge a phone in less than 20 minutes.

At summer festivals with camping and other events, there is a real rush for chargers, with festival-goers often looking for charging points for their devices. In addition to this scenario, there are others that require a portable but powerful charger.

This 3-in-1 portable wind turbine is designed for “outdoor enthusiasts and emergency use.” It folds down to the size of a 1-liter water bottle for easy carrying in a backpack between uses and weighs just 3 pounds. Called the Shine 2.0, it’s weather-resistant and rated IP54.

This is the company's second portable turbine Aureathe first of which was successfully funded on Kickstarter a few years ago. The company has returned to the crowdfunding platform for this update, according to New Atlas.

Wind turbine charges devices with renewable energy

The portable turbine has three 23.6-inch blades and can be purchased with a tower-mounting accessory. It automatically turns into the wind and is capable of generating 50 watts of power when its blades catch a 28 mph wind — enough to charge a phone in 17 minutes or a laptop in under 2 hours.

If the wind drops to a "light breeze," estimates suggest that the same laptop takes more than 75 hours to recharge.

Whether you’re exploring off-grid or facing a power outage at home, this turbine provides renewable energy to quickly charge your devices when you need them most.

Said Rachel Carr, co-founder of Aurea.

Users can monitor charging performance in real time via a companion mobile app, thanks to built-in Bluetooth connectivity.

Additionally, the turbine has a 12,000mAh lithium-ion battery that can be used as a power bank if needed. It supports 75W fast charging of mobile phones, laptops, cameras, drones, etc. via a USB-C port.

If you want to use the Shine 2.0 to charge power stations like Jackery, EcoFlow and Bluetti, Aurea has optional adapters to make this possible.
