Porto: Mayan admits having forged signatures and resigns as president of the Union of Parishes of Foz

The president of the Union of Parishes of Aldoar, Foz do Douro and Nevogilde, in Porto, Tiago Mayan, admits that he forged the signatures of the jury of the Portuense Associativism Support Fund.

At issue are minutes of the jury meeting of the Portuense Associativism Support Fund, dated September 16, which would have been prepared and falsified by Tiago Mayan.

“These minutes were not drawn up by the jury, nor signed by them, being a false document with signatures affixed by another person”, reads the minutes of the meeting that took place on Wednesday between the jury and the executive of the join.

According to the document, to which Lusa had access today, when confronted with the document, Mayan confirmed “that it was he who prepared the document and put the signatures, attributing this responsibility to himself, exempting all the remaining members of his team from any blame. executive and employees”.

The suspicions arose after, in a meeting held on Monday online, the jury questioned Tiago Mayan about the deadlines for prior hearing statements.

“To which he replied that he had already sent the draft of the aforementioned report 15 days ago by email”, the minutes say, adding that “in view of the attempt to pass the onus of responsibility to the jury” the face-to-face meeting was then scheduled for Wednesday -fair .

“When checking all the documents in a shared folder on the board’s server, the jury found the existence of a minute (…) the content of which makes the jury responsible for the request for exemption from a prior hearing, imputing demands to comply with deadlines imposed by the municipality” .

At stake is the Support Fund for Portuense Associativism, which in this edition included a global value of 875 thousand euros.

As in previous editions, support is given by parish councils to associations, and the municipality allocates a maximum budget of 120 thousand euros to each parish.

The parishes should send the jury’s final report by June 30th, with a view to concluding an inter-administrative contract with the municipality to grant support.

The UF of Aldoar, Foz do Douro and Nevogilde did not meet this deadline, having been notified by the municipality, at the beginning of September, to send the documentation by September 20th, in order to approve the respective contracts.

The signing of the contract with the board was part of the executive’s private meeting on September 30, but ended up being withdrawn.

At the time, a source from the chamber clarified that an association had sent a letter challenging the procedure, alleging that the report had been approved without a prior hearing of interested parties, “in violation of the law and program conditions approved by the chamber.”

In a personal statement sent on Thursday night, Mayan stated that “the personal conditions to continue exercising” the position were not met.

“I made the very difficult decision today to abdicate him”, said Tiago Mayan, adding that the reason is his “entire responsibility”.

“It binds me only, exempting from this responsibility the remaining members of the executive or any employees, who never had any knowledge or direct or indirect interference in the acts or omissions I committed”, he added.

Tiago Mayan was elected, in September 2021, president of the junta with 36.92% of the votes, by the independent movement “Rui Moreira: Aqui Há Porto”, supported by the Liberal Initiative (IL), CDS, Nós Cidadãos and MAIS.

Ana Júlia Furtado, José Ramos, Laura Lages Brito, Germano Castro Pinheiro, Tiago Lourenço (PSD) and Cláudia Bravo (PSD) were elected to the board’s executive board.

Tiago Mayan, former IL presidential candidate, formalized his candidacy for party leadership in July because he was dissatisfied with the party’s direction and understood that IL needs reach, breadth and boldness.
