Powersoft has announced the launch of DC Rider, a DC powered amplifier platform designed specifically for the demanding conditions of theme park rides and other high vibration environments. It gives designers the ability to incorporate onboard near-field audio into, for example, roller coasters or dark rides – improving the visitor experience and freeing creatives from the limitations of traditional point source audio solutions.

Ultra-compact and vibration-proof
Available in both eight and sixteen channel versions, DC Rider combines an ultra-compact design and low weight (1.5kg) with the features of other Powersoft amplifier platforms, including integrated DSP, AES67 compatibility and advanced Power sharing functions that enable the operation of subwoofers, speakers and even haptic transducers (like Powersoft’s Mover).
Designed to automotive standards for vibration resistance, DC Rider is designed to perform smoothly in extreme conditions, including high vibrations and outdoors. Its integrated DSP allows full control of the audio signal, including channel EQ, filtering and delay management, eliminating the need for external processors. AES67 Audio over IP networking capabilities also ensure seamless connectivity for complex installations and setups.
The new amplifier platform also offers expanded support for daisy chaining, ensuring uninterrupted uptime for mission-critical applications even if a device fails, while optimized APIs enable easy third-party control and monitoring.
New possibilities for immersive experiences
“DC Rider is the answer to the amusement industry’s need for reliable, high-quality audio solutions that can withstand the mechanical stresses and spatial limitations of rides such as roller coasters,” said Tom Bland, Solution Engineer at Powersoft. “In the past, attraction developers have typically been forced to place their audio equipment at fixed points on the track or rely on equipment from the automotive and marine industries in an attempt to make a highly tailored solution reliable in a theme park environment. In contrast, the DC Rider was designed specifically for this market – meaning no more sticking and hoping.”
“By providing a consistent, uninterrupted audio experience throughout the ride,” adds Bland, “DC Rider invites guests to overcome skepticism and offers new possibilities for immersive audio effects.” Similar to Thomas Howie, Business Development Manager at Powersoft. He says: “By developing a dedicated, reliable amplifier solution for onboard audio, Powersoft is paving the way for a new wave of immersive experiences in theme parks worldwide.”
