In the Orthodox Christian calendar, on November 9, Saint Nectarius of Aegina is celebrated, the one who is said to help cure diseases, especially cancer.
Moreover, these days thousands of pilgrims pray to his myrrh-springing relics, which are found at the Radu-Vodă Monastery in Bucharest.
In recent years it has become a tradition for people to come and pray to Saint Nectarius of Aegina, known as “The Healer”. It is said that people who pass by it, pray and touch the reliquary with the holy relics are cured of any disease, even without cure.
Special prayer for healing diseases
Oh, most holy and all-praised, great miracle-worker Nectarius, accept this little prayer from us, your unworthy slaves, for to you, as to a true source of healings and hastily useful and admirable helper escaping and to the holy image of your icon looking, with hot tears we pray to you: see, saint, our pains, see our poverty and wretchedness. See the wounds of our souls and bodies.
We pray to you, Holy Hierarch Nectarius, hasten to help us with your unceasing and holy prayers and support us, your slaves. Take note of our sighs and do not overlook us, the wretched and abominable, for we know, saint of God, that even after your departure from this transitory life, whoever sought your help and prayed to you with faith did not remain helpless. That who called you for help and you did not hear him? Or who, being in pain and running to your help, you did not ease his suffering.
Your miracles and your help made even us, the wretched and the wretched, call upon you to come to our aid. We know, O chosen hierarch, of the multitude of cures which thou hast wrought, new penniless doctor showing thyself. We know no suffering or pain that you cannot relieve.
We know of no disease that you cannot heal, but more than that, you have not only healed diseases that doctors said could not be healed, but you have also helped many sick people to be strengthened in the faith and in patience, and to receive payment from God for their toil.
Kneeling, we pray to you, Holy Hierarch Nectaria, to pray for us to Christ, the One who did not overlook your sacrificial prayers, but strengthened you and received you in the heavenly abodes.
To Him pray, so that we too may be helped and have mercy with your prayers, and be delivered from harm and trouble, so that we may bless the Triune God praised, always, now and ever and forever and ever. Amen!
