“The only possible solution was a reconstruction of this tendon with a muscle from the back of the shoulder where we used an augmentation with an allograft from the tissue bank, with the Achilles tendon that we woven in a certain way. I was lucky to have a very good collaboration with all my colleagues at the Colentina hospital”, declared Dr. Dan Valentin Anghelescu, orthopedic surgeon at the Colentina hospital.
Dr. Andrei Nica, coordinator of the tissue bank at the Colentina hospital, stated that “it is the first Achilles tendon allograft that we deliver for such a surgical intervention. Thank you to the families who accept tissue donation. Very few donations are made. Apart from the agreement for the organ, there is also the tissue. The pathology also spreads a lot in children. We have ligaments given to children who need something like that, not to mention tubular bones for various post-neoplasia defects which are emotional”.
