Presidential Office: “We can’t talk about the matter under investigation” on the controversy over the location of Mrs. Kim’s investigation

Request for heavy disciplinary action against administrative officers for drunk driving… “Handle in accordance with law and principles” in response to criticism of lax public service discipline

The Office of the President reaffirmed its position on the 23rd that it cannot comment on the subsequent controversy that arose as the prosecution conducted a private investigation of President Yoon Seok-yeol’s wife, Kim Keon-hee, at a third location, as the matter is currently under investigation.

An official from the Blue House met with reporters that day and, when asked about the matter, said, “Our position on the matter currently under investigation is the same as the day before, and there is nothing we can say additionally.”

The presidential office had also stated the day before that it was inappropriate to comment on a matter under investigation and that it was decided that Mrs. Kim’s legal representative would state his position.

When asked about the Democratic Party of Korea’s push for the so-called “Yoon Seok-yeol-Kim Kun-hee special prosecutors’ law” to investigate suspicions surrounding President Yoon and Ms. Kim, the official responded, “It is difficult for the Office of the President to state a specific position on current issues such as the special prosecutors’ law that are being discussed in political circles,” and “It is difficult to comment.”

An official from the Blue House said, “We are taking action in accordance with the policy of handling the situation according to law and principles” in response to criticisms of lax public service discipline amid a series of drunk driving and sexual harassment incidents involving employees.

The official continued, “Regarding the administrative officials involved in drunk driving, we requested the (Personnel Innovation Office) Central Disciplinary Committee to decide on heavy disciplinary action yesterday, and we will have to wait and see what the personnel office decides on the timing and level,” adding, “We are currently taking action on the relevant issues and plan to take action quickly.”
