The beginning of the new school year also brings the continuation of activities related to the project “PES – Prevention, education and socialization”, which deals with the topic of prevention of Internet addiction among students of upper grades of primary and secondary schools.

Today, the second public presentation of the project was held in the amphitheater of the Sports Gymnasium “Sportium” in the presence of a large number of athletes of the younger categories of the Football Club “Partizan”.

The initiative to implement this project was taken by the Association of Organizers of Games of Chance AGOS, and support for the implementation came from both the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia. The project covers the growing problems caused by Internet addiction among adolescents, and the goal is to provide these young individuals with the skills, knowledge and resources needed to prevent and combat this problem.

In the introductory part of the presentation, our prominent athlete and national team player Dragan Škrbić, ambassador of the “Prevention, Education and Socialization” Project addressed the audience, and after that, the lecture was given by Sara Gašić, graduate psychologist and family system counselor.

Dragan Škrbić pointed out that this is one of the important social issues because it concerns our youth first of all, and then all of us. It is the right moment to speak transparently about Internet addiction and to take steps that will lead to a better recognition of this problem among young people and their parents and a greater awareness of it, so that everything that new technologies bring can be used wisely and with the right measure.

The presentation of the project as well as workshops with students and parents have so far been held in two Belgrade schools – Sports Gymnasium “Sportium” and school “Ruđer Bošković”. The project’s activities continue intensively in the new school year, and workshops are planned, in addition to schools, for the younger categories of the “Partizan” Football Club, the “Crvena Zvezda” Sports Club, and the “Dinamik” Basketball Club.

The topics covered in the project are the reality of the digital world, possible harmful content and potential risks for children’s mental health, the influence of parents and the community on children’s Internet use, as well as the presentation of tools that can help prevent online addiction.

The implementation of the Project is planned for the next four years, so that an expert team of psychologists will hold a series of workshops in primary and secondary schools specially adapted for female students, and especially for their parents. The goal is to build a partnership with schools, teachers, parents and the public during this period so that we can talk about the problems together and prevent the emergence of online addiction.
